Summary
Hans Jansen
Religie en ideologie vijftig jaar vooruit
Hans Jansen looks at the prospects for religion and ideology in the next half century. The most serious attack on the foundations of modern society was brought about by the fundamentalistic quasi-merger between religion and politics, as exemplified by Khomeini's seizure of power in Iran in 1979. But the last decade of the twentieth century has indicated that the Islamic fundamentalist groups in the Middle East are past their peak. A reorientation in a purely cultural direction has begun. The same may be said of Christian fundamentalist groups, especially in the United States, while Jewish fundamentalism in Israel will have a tough time now that Barak has replaced Netanhayu as Israel's head of state.
