Ruddy Doom

De Afrikaanse renaisance: een tegendraads verhaal

Ruddy Doom contributes some criticisms of the fashionable discourse of an African Renaissance which he presents as an easy escape from Afro-pessimism, or from the ambiguous and more or less false dichotomy of intentionalism and structuralism (or, for that matter, voluntarism versus determinism). Betting on the new political leadership in Africa has already proved to create illusions. On the contrary, to disregard structural causes of underdevelopment results in a narrow psychological approach of African realities.
